My parents are having the same problem and their house is complete and in a stunning rural local in mid-west France. Its been on the market since last November and they have been fed the line that people do not want whole properties, but fixer uppers. Someone is fibbing.

French estate agents seem a completely different breed from the English. I’ve just bought a house and things move so quickly here that they dont even get time to print the details up - I have the rough notes they took from the vendor. They dont sell the properties. just leave them sitting there. They also never make contact with you - you have to chase them.

I wonder if their French customers are treated this way.

The French property market is certainly different to UK.

There is high French demand for family properties near employment.

The rural, potential gite and wreck market is favoured by North Europeans. Many North Europeans are not buying at the moment for several reasons :

their economies are not so good
the gites market has expanded (too?) rapidly in recent years
    tourist figures are down
too many dreamers have set up gites complexes that are now for sale

So in this buyers market, the few buyers can chose the best properties. The best gites properties are in areas with a long letting season, and something special.

Renovation costs are much higher than in the past, and ever increasing legislation makes a (heavily reduced) completed property more attractive.

Add to this that Brits used to buy properties and rent gites near the channel ports, because they could drive. Now it is cheaper to fly further South and rent a car.

If you search google for “renovation projects for sale in france” you will find English based agents who are active in this area.

Hi, I’m a french student in Australia, doing a master of Property & Development here in Sydney. I have previous experience working within the real estate industry in France and we still have a few real estate agencies there but not in the area where your property is located. I could perhaps help u if u need to communicate with any french real estate agent.
Do not hesitate to contact me if u need help.
    cheers
